Ever since I got home from the Tulsa convention, I have hit the ground running at full speed. Between work, packing, and print preparations for Gen Con next week, my time has been cinched tight. I'll have a bigger, better post later to list off what I'll have at Gen Con, as well as (finally) dive into other personal details on where I am in my life right now, but for the moment, I'd rather just glow in nostalgia over how awesome the Defcon 7 convention was.
First of all, it's important for everyone to know that the only reason I even considered attending this tiny convention was for the sake of visiting one of my very best friends, Dan Gibson. He and I first met at the Wizard World Dallas Convention in 2006 and needless to say, we hit it off immediately and became fast friends. Talk about a fucking BLAST to hang out with. We drank margaritas and stuffed our faces with Mexican food, giggled over silly nonsense, screamed Silversun Pickup's Lazy Eye at the top of our lungs, and all around had a great time. The trip was a much-needed distraction from all the high-paced ongoings; it was nice to just let go and not have to think about anything for a few days.
Highlights
+ Playing my first *official* game of RAGE with a fellow named Conan. For those who are unaware, RAGE is a seriously kickass card game revolving around the Werewolf: the Apocalypse universe by White Wolf. I once had a pretty substantial deck with some very rare characters, but as I was growing up, no one knew of the game, so I had no one to play with. Thus, I never really learned how to play in the first place (White Wolf was not very graceful in explaining the rules to begin with). But I met Conan and he had mentioned RAGE, and I exploded with glee, and so he brought his very impressive collection and we waged a few intense rounds. FANTASTIC. Now I wish I hadn't sold my cards on Ebay! UGH! I'm dying to play again, now that I actually know how it all works. + Meeting Brent Woodside and his wife, who were our table neighbors. AWESOME people, the both of them. The story of how they met still makes me smile. Brent's quick to laugh and is such a nice guy that it will make your head spin. I'll be seeing them at Gen Con! + Receiving my FIRST LESSON IN LARP FIGHTING. Oh, my goodness, you guys.. I'm hooked. Brent was my mentor and I couldn't have a better teacher. He's been fighting for nine years and had plenty of pointers to give. Apparently, I'm a natural at ass-kicking. And I am going to completely fluff my feathers and boast: I did exceptionally well on my first run. Oh, yes, you bet your ass I swung those foam swords around, hacked off many an imaginary limb, pwned a fellow fighter or two. Was I sore the next day? You bet. Now is the time to start getting in shape for RAGNAROK XXIII!!. HELL YES. + Dancing like a maniac at the Soundpony. I love this place. Quite possibly the only bar that I would want to frequent and become a drunk bum at. One night Dan and I attended to hear Cecada live; love their music, bought a shirt, good stuff, and then the next there were a handful of DJs spinning tracks, and we flailed about like the white folks that we are. We were especially bitchin when the DJs played old 80s songs. I just about lost it when The Cure came on. Perfect. + Spending time with Dan, OF COURSE. Between margaritas and cracking each other up and Mexican food and sharing a table, it was just too much fun. I'm still laughing at all our inside jokes. + I sat across from Peter Mayhew (the guy who played Chewbacca in Star Wars), Mercedes Lackey, and James O'Barr. Seriously. How fucking cool is that? For such a tiny convention, they sure had some big names! I talked to James O'Barr and his amigo Robert for a little bit. So cool.
And now.. pictures, because I can.

( There is no excuse for any of these. [ + 9 Photos ] )
As a bonus, I'll post the brief little video footage of Dan and I being dorks. We're talking about AIDs. Which isn't funny. So you shouldn't laugh at this. At all. Or else you'll be going to hell, like I am.
Thank You to everyone who came by and purchased something, or just dropped in to say hello! I am grateful for all the love and praise. Big kudos goes out to the fellow artists who were there, and to those whom I got a chance to speak to or goof off with. Thank you DAN, for being so awesome, and for giving me a place to stay and showing me a hellofa great time in little ol' Tulsa, Oklahoma. You're all the best!
For now, that's it. Off to bed. Whooosh.
This is my song, I wrote it, it's called Lazy Eye, + Sarah
